Every Body Swim 8: Infinity Swims, Carleton Athletics, 1125 Colonel By Drive: All Bodies are Good Bodies! Forever! This is our eighth trans positive, fat positive, Every Body swim. LGBTQ refugee fundraiser at East India Company Restaurant, 210 Somerset West: Rainbow New Beginnings and Sunrise Settlement, two refugee sponsorship groups that are partners of Capital Rainbow Refuge, are hosting a fundraiser at the East India Company Restaurant at 210 Somerset West on April 16th. There will be two dinner seatings, one at 5:30 or 6:00 pm and one at 8 pm. The dinner will be buffet style and will cost $24 (plus tax and tip). 25% of the meal proceeds will go to our sponsorship groups. Rainbow New Beginnings is currently gathering funds to bring three LGBTQ individuals and their child from the Middle East to Ottawa and Sunrise Settlement is raising funds for settlement expenses for a woman fleeing persecution from her home country. https://www.facebook.com/events/935576856833382/ April 13, 9-12am. Out There Sounds: CU Fusion Ensemble + James Anderson CD Release, 1077 Bank St: OUT THERE SOUNDS is a new Jazz Fusion music series curated by Canadian jazz-rock fusion guitarist educator, improviser, composer Wayne Eagles. This music series seeks to showcase mind-blowing musicianship that pushes the boundaries of rock, blues & funk through the power of jazz harmony, improvisation & inspiration from OUT THERE! James Anderson is a queer Canadian jazz guitarist and composer based out of Ottawa. With influences spanning punk, blues, house, and video game music, he approaches jazz from an outsider’s perspective with a unique and eclectic musical vocabulary. https://www.facebook.com/events/566621757172593/ April 16 from 6-8 PM: Responding to the Overdose Crisis Behind & Beyond Bars hosted by: Criminalization and Punishment Education Project at 251 bank street: a community event on the consequences of criminalizing people who use drugs and sending them to jails like the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre.
