For the record, Renny. I love everything you play.....fast, slow, raucus, reflective......or even backwards!!!! And I am looking forward to some Dexys Midnight Runners (all time fave) Gypsy Kings, and who doesn't love some Ventures, especially "Wolk Don't Run" A very hot, hot playlist, my friend!!!! Viva The Riot !!

interesting opening set, one of the few that I knew most of the bands/artists.

This Mortal Coil on RR? Sign of END times indeed lol :D "Different" is never bad, sounding good to me. Bracing for Eagles cover though haha!

Well hello, very kind of you to say Dancing Labrador. Please thank your owner Neil (the ape with the opposable thumbs), for tuning in the show today.

Brilliant, brilliant cover by Gypsy Kings. These guys can never do no wrong. Bought every vinyl and cd I could find by these guys. One of those bands you put on when in doubt or whatever the mood! Viva viva, amigo!!

Ha, Renny you're like the Dude in 'the Big Lebowski " who also hated the Eagles, but loved CCR. By the way this Gypsy King's version is on the "Big Lebowski 'soundtrack. (sky?)

Hey Dave A. I plan on making up for the sin of playing an Eagles song by playing "Bye, Bye, Glenn Frey" by Nine Pound Hammer on the next show.

I do love Creedence even though some of their songs have been played to death.

But that laid back California country rock of the Seventies is one of the reasons I turned to punk. Can't stand that crap. Cocaine cowboys fuck off!

2:15 PM, August 14th, 2024
Frankie
Renny, I have to confess I quite liked most of the Eagles early stuff. (first 2 albums?) By the time Hotel California comes out the music seems somewhat jaded. However, I did get chills listening the acoustic intro from the Gypsy Kings"

The version of the Gypsy Kings version of Hotel California comes from the Electra 40th Anniversary collection. It had current (1990) bands on the label covering bands that had been on the label in the past. The collection is stellar and is worth the price of admission for John Zorn's cover of The Stooges.

Referencing the fact that Link Wray only had one lung. I jumped ahead in the song list.

2:33 PM, August 14th, 2024
Frankie
The question is how did Link lose a lung? I think he had TB as a child.

2:35 PM, August 14th, 2024
Frankie
This is Link using a talk box ten years before Peter Frampton.

2:39 PM, August 14th, 2024
Renny G (host)
I think he came down with TB in the army. That's where it was diagnosed if my memory serves me correctly.....That's a big IF at my age.

2:46 PM, August 14th, 2024
Frankie
Cocaine cowboys fuck off!, now that's funny. I don't think I've ever seen one. Only the Eagles on tv.

Renny G (host)
The A-Side of that single was Link covering Dylan's song, "Girl From The North Country", I prefer Link's song, the B-Side.

2:50 PM, August 14th, 2024
Bobby Calzone
Long live the apocalypse !

2:52 PM, August 14th, 2024

You're right Renny, he served 2 years in Korea. You see Wiki is good for some things. Renny ,this must be quite a rare Link single.

For all you listeners who are looking to expand your horizons this weekend why don't you check out Ian Jeans' Art Opening this Sunday afternoon between 2 and 4 at Citizen, 207 Gilmour just west of Elgin Street. You can meet the Sonic Sensei and the Fine Artiste and become a patron of the arts at the same time.

The other thing about Link that I love was his D.I.Y. spirit. He and his brothers built a studio on their property, the 4 Track Shack.

Tuning in late - enjoying what I am hearing! The only mainstream music my friends knew I liked was the Eagles - I was given 3 copies of their Greatest Hits album for my 16th birthday! I did like. a lot of that music an Don Henley's "Boys of Summer" is still my favourite summertime car song!

I know Bobby, perhaps it's the sign of the End Times. Renny playing mellow music on the Riot. What the Hell? What's next?

Just joined the fun and impending doom a while ago, looking at the tapping... "John Zorn's cover of The Stooges" COOL!!! THAT'S an attention getter for me right there. i smell a rabbit hole in my near future. And yeah, so many otherwise marginally acceptable tunes absolutely played TO DEATH, to this day on that evil commercial radio and their robots from hell. "Cocaine cowboys fuck off!" Yup. Gave me LOL

3:00 PM, August 14th, 2024
Frankie
You had it covered.

Damn it Daragh, You missed my introspective acoustic instrumentals, Renny's got a brand new bag. You must go back and click the listen now button to listen to the WHOLE show. As for Don Henley.......I'd rather drink polluted water, sleep in a hollow log, shave my head with a cheese grater and swim in a lake of iodine than listen to that insufferable twat, Don Henley!

The musical pendulum continues to swing. W e enjoy it all.

3:06 PM, August 14th, 2024
Frankie
HA ha, that's harsh on Henley. We use to call him 'Down Henley'.

Bye the bye boys, the man playing fiddle and singing with the Mother's of Invention cover of Little Richard's "Directly From My Heart To You" is none other than Don "Sugarcane" Harris. The Don of Don & Dewey, the fabulous Fifties duo who had huge hits with "Farmer John (I'm In Love With Your Daughter", "Justine" & more.

Ha! Ha! I can't. I'd get into so much trouble. That's why tic can't have me as a guest on Tic Talk, the Wednesday Special Blend. There have been shock jocks but I'm more of a mock jock.

Thanks Renny.
