Kim and Shelley welcome Jennifer Goulden, President of Braille Literacy Canada who will talk about her organization and International Braille Literacy Day. We will also talk about the many uses of Braille as it is being used today. From last week: Some information from last week regarding the Para Nordic Skiing Program offered here in Ottawa: Come and participate in the Ottawa Para-Nordic Skiing Program in 2016 taking place at the Mooney’s Bay Ski Centre (2960 Riverside Drive) every Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. as long as conditions permit. Program begins Tuesday, January 5. It is for anyone with a disability who would like to learn to cross-country ski and to get active in the winter. If you are interested in participating for the entire season, you must register for Kanata Nordic’s Para-Nordic Program. Registration is now open. It can be found at http://www.kanatanordic.ca/ski-programs/para-learn-to-ski/ A description of the program can also be found there. Click the Register button at the bottom of the page. Note that it says all learn-to-ski programs are full, but that’s not true for the Para Nordic program. Cost for entire program, approx. $100. For those who do not have their own skis, Mooney’s Bay has ski rentals. The cost is about $20.00 to rent skis. There are also trail fees of $3 per day or $33 for the season. If you would like to try the program, you may do so as long as you let Margarita know that you are coming in advance so that enough volunteers and equipment are available if needed. For more information, please contact Margarita Gorbounova email@example.com. You can also like their Facebook page Para-Nordic Ottawa. Updates will be posted there also. Braille Literacy Canada: www.brailleliteracycanada.ca firstname.lastname@example.org Volunteers needed for various committees--they need to focus on fund raising, website, promoting Braille and sharing resources. The website contains a committees page. Membership: #20.00 per year. CNIB has a group that meets on Mondays where you may learn to read Braille. Call 613-563-4021 for more information.
