Carleton University Art Gallery Presents a Pop-Up Performance Series Featuring Jesse Stewart

The Carleton University Art Gallery (CUAG) will present Hooked on Bibliophonics, the first of five live performances by Jesse Stewart in the CUAG / DOME Pop-Up series, taking place across campus throughout 2017.

When: Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, from noon to 1 p.m.
Where: MacOdrum Library’s main floor, Carleton University, Ottawa
Info: This event is free and open to the public.

The performance takes place inside Stewart’s portable geodesic dome and will feature a “bibliophone,” a xylophone-like instrument made by Stewart out of amplified books. This is an interactive event: anyone is welcome to pick up some mallets and join Stewart in jamming on the bibliophone!

To celebrate CUAG’s 25th anniversary and Carleton University’s 75th anniversary, CUAG commissioned the Juno award-winning artist to create live performances and sound installations.

On the corner of Richmond and Churchill, the Savoy will present the first of the year's weekly residencies on Feb. 5th at 7 pm with SUNDAY NIGHTS WITH BIRDIE WHYTE. This banjo playing, fortune telling songstress has been performing her live solo show in the Byward Market for the past five years and is known for her ability to inoculate her audience against the Monday Morning Blues by singing soothing Sunday songs. With a mix of original and traditional folk and blues, Birdie is the perfect match for The Savoy's evening of Buck-a-Shuck Oysters from the start of the show until close along with a featured wine and beer every week!
Birdie will also be the hostess for the brand new SAVOY OPEN STAGE every Monday night, beginning Feb. 6th, a fun, welcoming Open Stage where folks in the neighborhood and beyond can play and sing their hearts out! A house guitar will be on hand. Even if you don't play can still play for Birdie's fantastic unusual prizes!
