Marlyse L.K. Assonken-Sobtafo, who holds a master's in Nutrition and Integrative health from the Maryland University of Integrative Health, in conversation about her book 'Eat TROPICAL to Heal' (Bloomington, Balboa Press, 2024).
This book seeks to challenge negative misconceptions about tropical foods, to refocus the attention on their healing powers. It restores the truth about the preventive and curative properties of African, Caribbean
and Pacific countries’ local foods. It empowers individuals to take charge of their health and become their own primary doctor. Additionally, it educates readers on understanding their bodies’ communication language. It offers hope to those grappling with chronic diseases including obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases by emphasizing that these conditions can be reversible. Central to this mission is the SET-FREE method, a framework I developed from my own experiences, as well as the experiences of other fellow health practitioners. This method, grounded in science and ancient traditional foods and wellness practices, goes beyond physical health. It is intricately connected to mental well-being and the pursuit of joy. The SET-FREE method revolves around four pillars, providing a comprehensive guide to a healthier and more fulfilling life.
