Immanuel Kant's birth tercentenary, on 22 April, 2024.

"Immanuel Kant (1724–1804) is the central figure in modern philosophy. He synthesized early modern rationalism and empiricism, set the terms for much of nineteenth and twentieth century philosophy, and continues to exercise a significant influence today in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, and other fields. The fundamental idea of Kant’s “critical philosophy” – especially in his three Critiques: the Critique of Pure Reason (1781, 1787), the Critique of Practical Reason (1788), and the Critique of the Power of Judgment (1790) – is human autonomy. He argues that the human understanding is the source of the general laws of nature that structure all our experience; and that human reason gives itself the moral law, which is our basis for belief in God, freedom, and immortality. Therefore, scientific knowledge, morality, and religious belief are mutually consistent and secure because they all rest on the same foundation of human autonomy, which is also the final end of nature according to the teleological worldview of reflecting judgment that Kant introduces to unify the theoretical and practical parts of his philosophical system." Call for Papers València, Kantian city On the occasion of Immanuel Kant’s birth tercentenary (1724-2024), all kinds of events will take place in València: conferences, book presentations, seminars, a virtual exhibition, an essay competition, visits to museums and concerts related to the Kantian era and inspiration… The year will close with the international conference “Kant, then and now”. À l’occasion du tricentenaire de sa naissance » (València, 15-18 octobre 2024) - Appel à communications 11 novembre 2021 à 11:19 The Virtual Kant Congress with a Cosmopolitan Purpose (VKC) is a decentralized series of virtual sessions curated by Kant societies and groups from around the globe to commemorate Kant’s 300th birthday. The series seeks to honor Kant's ideal of cosmopolitan dialogue by connecting Kant researchers worldwide. Sessions will take place online (on Zoom) roughly every two weeks throughout 2024, starting in March.  Please register here to receive the Zoom link. Sessions will be recorded and archived on both the VKC YouTube channel and on the Recorded Sessions page. The VKC is supported by the North American Kant Society and the Leuven Research Group in Classical German Philosophy, and organized by Andrew Chignell (Princeton), Karin de Boer (Leuven), Luis Fellipe Garcia (Leuven), and Alexander (Z) Quanbeck (Princeton).  For all questions about the VKC, please contact luisfellipe.garcia@kuleuven.be. Please note that our decision to invite particular Kant societies or groups does not in any way indicate that we support the policies of the government of the nation in which the society or group is based.  The 14th International Kant Congress will be organized and hosted by the Institute for Philosophie of the University of Bonn and the Kant-Society (Germany). In celebration of the 300th anniversary of Kant’s birth, and in view of the political developments of our time, the theme of the congress will be “Kant’s Project of Enlightenment”. In 2024, the city of Bonn will also be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the German Constitution, which was enacted into law in Bonn on May 23, 1949, as the Grundgesetz of the Federal Republic of Germany.
