Vertigo! French,Frith, Kaiser, Thompson! More stuff!
Didn't have much of an idea (as usual) for a feature, but was waxing nostagic for the AmRep bands I used to listen to 15 years or so ago, so decided to play a feature on Vertigo, which started me out on the path of being heavy and punky. Then I decided to Do a short feature on French Frith Kaiser Thompson's 2nd LP, which meant I had to, within an hour to grom raging noise to slightly off-kilter prog. I made it via some new wave/post-punk stuff, then hit the prog hard. The If cut took me by surprise (it's an LP from the CKCU library) - excellent. Must get that record. The we made a headlong charge towards the final jazz cuts (from great Toronto drummer Barry Romberg's band Random Access) via some Can and then some newer material - who remembers Ottawa artists 'Jaws of the Flying Carpet' - more people should than do. All in all, a good, varied Nightwatch!
