Brainticket! 2 Chant Records releases: Dark Ages! Alon & Joca with NDR Big Band!
Excited by 2 very disparate releases on Chant records: The Experimental Doom band, Dark Ages, and the Brazilian Jazz band Alon & Joca with NDR Big Band. Starting out with a full-album-drop of a classic Krautrock release, Brainticket's 2nd release, 'Psychonaut'!
| This follow-up from Brainticket is a bit of a departure from their debut, Cottonwoodhill. While that one is indeed iconic, I might say that they seem the have a firmer grasp on what they're doing here and the experimentation is less primitive and realistically closer to prog or fusion. Say what you will about it but you won't find any lazy songwriting, and the arrangements covering a wide range of styles--psychedelic folk, prog, raga--are all fantastically meticulous. |

| Dark Ages is a recording by five stalwarts of the restless New York City scene who gathered on a snowy winter night in Brooklyn to improvise together with one twisted mind. Working with legendary producer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Helmet, Bill Laswell), the resulting album references everything from the doom metal of Sleep’s “Dopesmoker” to punk pioneers Black Flag and No Wave music. Members of Dark Ages have worked with a diverse roster of musicians and projects including Blue Man Group, Shudder To Think, Gary Lucas and Doctor Nerve.
