3 Hours of Japanese creativity!! The Silence! Osamu Kitajima! Kikagaku Moyo!!

For some reason, after getting my hands on The Silence's 2nd LP, I wen't Japanese-mad and filled a show with great Japanese music new and old!
The Silence's second album in just seven months, offers a different aspect of the persona revealed on their self-titled debut. On Hark the Silence, former Ghost mainman Masaki Batoh, and bandmates offer looser, heavier, longer, and more intuitive performances. Love it love it love it!

Finally getting towards the 70's style, and the Osamu feature! The next two tracks, while not recorded in Japan (The Flower Travellin' Band's record was recorded in good ol' Canada!) , the members definitely are from Nihon!

Released in 1974, Osamu Kitajima's 'Banzaiten' is influential and truly a world fusion - a melting pot of Western psychedelic rock and Japanese traditional instrumentation. Very few have pulled it off so well as Kitajima does here.

Taiyo - The sun

Less-known, but certainly as forward-looking, is Nightwatch favourite Stomu Yamash'ta. More fusion than 'world', but a few excellent records in his corner as well!

Finally mamaged to get my hands on KIKAGAKU MOYO (The name means GEOMETRIC PATTERNS in Japanese) 1st release from 2012. This Tokyo band started channeling the spirits of the Japanese psychedelic underground in the summer of 2012, quickly developing the sound of ‘60s psychedelia to a breathtaking degree. As great as the follow-up LPs - one of the best best up-and-comers! Thanks to the munificent and effervescent B-Mac for getting this for me!
