After the all-Japanese show last Nightwatch, my conscience led me to the only eventuality I could consider - do an all-Canadian show... and, better than that, a predominantly local show. Starting out in the folk vein, hitting the rock 'n' rolls, passing through the prog and psych/experimental side and exiting thru the auspices of jazz. A classic CKCU show for variety and CanCon.
Start the proceedings in a bit of local folk, progressively getting more electric and eclectic... |
My Last Map Her Harbour - ST |
Black River Fiftymen - After Darkfall |
Wasting Time Cooper Maclaren - Roaming Still |
Pattern The Heavy Medicine Band - Conduit EP |
Song #11 Fays - War Tower |
Out of the folk, into the rock... and what's more, rock AND roll... |
Flavour: Zombie Expandafuzz - Bluets |
Guru Meditation Reverb Syndicate - Odyssey |
Compelled Evil Farm children - Knuckle Duster |
He Don't Dance Mere Humans - This is Rock N Roll |
I Think I Fell In Love Life Size Men - Up Yours Alot |
Moving rather abruptly from the R'n'R to some Post rock, starting with a Nightwatch Favourite, and one of the few non-local tracks in the show: Nomeansno - may they record again! |
No Big Suprise Nomeansno - Generic Shame |
People Walk Scattered Clouds - The First Empire |
Floating Underwater Scattered Clouds - The First Empire |
The First Empire Scattered Clouds - The First Empire |
Le fonctionnaire J'envoie - La vitesse des chats sauvages |
A bit of mid-70's-style craziness from one of the original practicioners... and then, as Prog was Promised.... Prog will be Delivered. |
Clearly Invisible Simply Saucer - Half Human, Half Live |
Zulumatic Mahogany Frog - On Blue |
...and some of the best Prog is Local Prog, don't'cha know! |
Boundaries The Night Watch - Boundaries |
Out of the Prog and ito musics 'farther out', and just as challenging! |
Once We Were TBWNIAS - Biker Smell |
Mutants Exploding Meet - Circus of Disharmony |
El Niño Amoeba Starfish - Oceans Older Than Life |
Live and Return Dillinger - Dillinger |
That set got away from me - I just couldn't interrupt the flow, so it went a bit long. Oh, well, it got us close to jazz, which is where we finish out for tonight! Back to the reg'lar ol' Nightwatch next week, promise!! |
Leviathan Atlantis Jazz Ensemble - Oceanic Suite |
Too Far Ellias Roddy - Monday's Dream |
Thanks for the show. I love the mix of prog and jazz. If you hadn't said so, I never would have guessed any of this stuff was Canadian.
