McEwen's Munificence - MBV, Bobby Boeausoleil, John Hassell, etc.
This show is another installment of 'McEwen's Munificence', or 'Bruce's Benevolence'. Many thnks go out to the man for supplying the first hour and a half (or so) of material for this episode of the Nightwatch.
Starting out, we are finally able to sample the new offering from My Bloody Valentine after more than 20 years. |
She Found Now My Bloody Valentine - mbv |
In Another Way My Bloody Valentine - mbv |
Nothing Is My Bloody Valentine - mbv |
Now onto some esoteric sides, starting out with an offering from avante-garde trumpeter Michael Mantler, and his mid-80's collaboration with Mothers of Invention keybdist, Don Preston. We finish with late american cellist Arthur Russel, and an LP he released in 1984. |
Part 4 Michael Mantler - Alien |
Han (excerpt) J Spaceman - & Kid Millions |
The Name of the Next Song Arthur Russell - World of Echo |
Seeing It Arthur Russell - World of Echo |
Now onto the first feature - the new Bobby Beausoleil LP, 'Orb'. Beausoleil is a "former associate of the Charles Manson "Family" who is serving a life sentence in prison for the murder of music teacher and associate Gary Hinman" but has been able to make music, definitely darker and more current-culture-relevant than anything Manson ever did. Since I'm only playing excepts, it seemed only approriate to play the 4 parts of 'In the Temple of The Moon', ironically starting at midnight. |
In the Temple of the Moon (Pt. 1) Bobby Beausoleil - Orb |
In the Temple of the Moon (Pt. 2) Bobby Beausoleil - Orb |
In the Temple of the Moon (Pt. 3) Bobby Beausoleil - Orb |
In the Temple of the Moon (Pt. 4) Bobby Beausoleil - Orb |
And we finish Bruce's contributions with the latest LP from 'tribal ambient/jazz' trumpeter Jon Hassell! Special thanks to Nightwatch 'deputy' for supplying all this great music! |
Time and Place Jon Hassell - Last Night the Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes in the Street |
Northline Jon Hassell - Last Night the Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes in the Street |
Cortrais Jon Hassell - Last Night the Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes in the Street |
Now, onto a sets of 'general music' before the usual 'album feature' to finish the Nightwatch, starting by upping the intensity signifigantly with Fredricton's Exploding Meet. Then we get progressively (heh) more jazzy . |
New Tangier Exploding Meet - Mapping New Tangier |
Mikomard Nero - Soon |
In The Temple of the Sphynx East of Eden - Mercator Projected |
Telegram (Nature's Mischief) Steamhammer - Speech |
Now, the album feature - the second (of two) LP from British jazz/rock band 'Catapilla'. Have a great two weeks! |
Reflections Catapilla - Changes |
Charing Cross Catapilla - Changes |
Thank Christ for George Catapilla - Changes |
It Could Only Happen to Me Catapilla - Changes |
