In Memoriam: Nash The Slash! Dark's 'Round the Edges'!

This Nightwatch starts out in sad-mode (aside from Turntable 2 only broadcasating in the left channel - I fixed it... after about 45 mins of fighting with it...): Canadian Electronic/weirdo music pioneer Nash the Slash has left us - it's time for an all-too-short retrospective. Also in this program a look at a reissue of what was originally an obscure 1970 private-pressing by UK band 'Dark'.
Time to Celebrate the life and work of Nash the Slash (real name: Jeff Plewman). Missing from this retrospective: something from FM (Black Noise was missing from the CKCU library), his first recording (a band called Breathless and a song, portentiously called 'Slasher' in 1970), and his Soundtrack work.

I encourage anyone to look up Nash's work. To quote the man himself: "Creativity in all its facets should be inspirational, and as such should be absorbed, its subtleties appreciated, understood and then woven into the fabric of some other person's creative vision. I'm very pleased to have shared my creative endeavors with so many people around the world. I hope I've left a few breadcrumbs in the forest, to inspire others to find their own path."

Since I wasn't able to play any FM-with-Nash-the-Slash, I will get to play some FM featuring the person Nash used to swap places with, a gent named Ben Mink. It's my favourite release from them, pre-Black Noise - a 'direct-to-disc' recording, live, no overdubs, 2 side-long fusion-y piece called 'Headroom'.

Thanks Dave for the excellent memorial set for the late great Nash the Slash. I was lucky enough to see him live many times in both ‘Thrash’ mode and in film-score mode. Each show was a mind bending blend of performance art and musicianship. We have lost a true original. As Nash would say, “Listen in Safety!”
