Yamantaka // Sonic Titan! Grobschnitt!

The big musical event of the spring has come and gone - the 10th Annual Community Record Show. Over the next few shows, I'll be playing tracks from/profiling a few of the LPs I managed to pick up. Tonight, Toronto's Yamantaka // Sonic Titan (2012) and Grobschnitt's 'Ballerman' 2xLP (1974).
Starting out with a new LP (OK, 2012), the debut from Toronto heavies Yamantaka // Sonic Titan. Can't believe I missed this when it first came out, glad I was able to get a copy at the Record-Con!

Second set, still in the heavy vein. For some reason Loud guitars are back on top with the Nightwatch!

Hissanol - The Making of Him Canadian
Faceless May
Nomeansno - Old ep Canadian
Crystal Wizards of the Cosmic Weird
La Otracina - Reality Has Got to Die
Heavy present-day stoner-psych seems to be the order of the day... so why not continue? Why not indeed... with one of my favourite heavy/neo-psych/prog bands, Residual Echoes.
Bush Pij/Sometimes
Residual Echoes - The Middle Path
Ah, the side-long-track - friend of the Nightwatch! Now it's time to roll into some more experimental music, as we make way for the percussion of Stomu!
Gathering Storm
Godspeed You Plack Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven Canadian
Sawney Bean
Snakefinger's Vestal Virgins - Night of Desirable Objects
Four Squares and 3 Circles
Fred Frith & Rene Lussier - Nous Autres Canadian
Now a long-awaited addition to my collection from the Record-con: Stomu Yamash'ta's debut solo LP, 'Red Buddha' - one side of an LP with 2 side-long-tracks, all entirely comprised of percussion!

Out of the avante-garde-percussion, and into the jazz-rock and kraut-rock!
Smoke (E.F.S. #59)
Can - Flowmotion
Interplay of Forces
Ash Ra Tempel - Starring Rosi
Splat
Nucleus - Alleycat
A quick sampling of a few other things that came my way by way of the Record-Con: Kraut from Ash Ra Tempel (the LP that has been unjustly panned - a very neat and varied LP, 'Starring Rosi'), and another LP from Ian Carr's Nucleus - can't seem to hear enough of his stuff these days. Now, a song from an LP I did not pick up ('Et Cetera' by Et Cetera...), though I saw many copies... and having said I was liking the Quebecois-prog, I feel like a bit of a sham, as well as a fool - this is the station's copy, and it's very good.
Entre Chien et Loup
Et Cetera - Et Cetera Canadian
Morning Song
Grobschitt - Ballerman
Now we finish the show with the BIG feature... and I do mean 'BIG', as it's the entire ~33minute 'Solar Music' suite from Grobschnitt's 'Ballerman' - Klassic Kraut!
