It was Al Minns birthday on January 1. Minns is widely viewed as one of the most influential voices in Lindy Hop. A member of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, Minns is perhaps most known for his performances in the films Hellzapoppin' and Day at the Races. Minns was also instrumental in the repopularization of Lindy Hop, in the 80s, as the Rhythm Hot Shots invited him to Stokholm in 1985 to teach them to dance as he did.
We'll open our show with a recording of Lindy Hop from the film Hellzapoppin', which featured Al Minns dancing (you can see a clip from the movie on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzc7vY9VTnk), and continue on with a variety of musical clips from soundtracks and films through the years.
