Here is one. The strings and synths in Jugraafiya take you to the kind of high that’s expected from a first-rate Ajay-Atul ballad. The lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya tie the sincere protagonist’s personality to the song. It makes sense as well since the film is set in that belt where such music is quite popular. Tanishk Bagchi is the man for the job and he steps in as a composer as well as co-lyricist with Shabbir Ahmed to deliver another catchy outing. An ensemble of singers come together in the form of Raja Hasan, Dev Negi, Pravesh Mallick and Monali Thakur to deliver a song that has made its way into celebratory occasions up North. 03-ZILLA HILELA CD MISC-20191229 TRACK#03 3:03 JABARIYA JODI-2019; RAJA HASAN, DEV NEGI, PRAVESH MALLICK, MONALI THAKUR; TANISHK BAGCHI; SHABBRI AHMED, TANISHK BAGCHI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMGu4_KEXJg SEPTEMBER 2019: 6 Chhichhore; 13 Dream Girl; Section 375 20 The Zoya Factor; Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas; Prassthanam PAL PAL DIL KE PAAS We have chosen the title track 'Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas'. An excellent number that is very high on melody and showcases the best side of composers Sachet-Parampara, it has poetic lyrics by Sidharth-Garima that makes a very strong impression. Meanwhile, the song is made special due to the voice of Arijit Singh who is superb all over again and also Parampara Thakur who shows once again that other than being an efficient composer, she is also a very good singer. 04-PAL PAL DIL KE PAAS CD MISC-20191229 TRACK#04 4:13 PAL PAL DIL KE PASS-2019; ARIJIT SINGH, PARAMPARA THAKUR; SACHET-PARAMPARA; SIDHARTH-GARIMA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1HpSzorjlc OCTOBER - 2019: 2 War 11 The Sky Is Pink 18 P Se Pyaar F Se Faraar; Ghost; Laal Kaptaan; Yaaram 25 Housefull 4; Saand Ki Aankh; Made In China GHUNGROO - WAR Easily the song of the year, Ghungroo is a breezy, feathery-light dance song that has a tune not immediately associated with funk. Vishal-Shekhar adds a contemporary, stylish spin to the oft-heard words “Ghungroo toot gaye”. Warren Mendonsa’s guitar ticks add verve, while long-time Vishal-Shekhar collaborator Kumaar stays away from Hinglish words, an annoying staple of contemporary Bollywood dance songs, giving the tune the timelessness it deserves. It is Shilpa Rao with Arijit Singh rendering the song. The released YouTube clip gives a teaser only up till the 3rd minute, where the song takes a softer turn (even Vishal-Shekhar recognising the same beat and rhythm combo being very boring) to give Shilpa Rao a verse for herself. Lyrically this is a moulded copy of Ghungroo Toot Gaye by Pankaj Udhas and possibly to hide this there is little chance for either singer to get out over the rhythm. Overall this is a stock standard but fusion song, bringing Pankaj Udhas’ ghazal together with Daft Punk’s club rhythm in a sort of Michael Jackson video. 05-GHUNGROO CD MISC-20191229 TRACK#05 5:03 WAR-2019; ARIJIT SINGH, SHILPA RAO; VISHAL-DADLANI; KUMAAR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PRbpv_z5Wc NOVEMBER – 2019: 1 Drive; Ujda Chaman 7 Bala 8 Bypass Road; Satellite Shankar 14 Jhalki 15 Marjaavaan; Motichoor Chaknachoor; Keep Safe Distance 22 Pagalpanti; Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi 29 Commando 3; Yeh Saali Aashiqui TUM HI AANA - MARJAAVAAN The way Tum Hi Aana begins, you wouldn’t be blamed for wondering if Nadeem-Shravan are suddenly back. But, no, it’s singer-composer Payal Dev. The tune is fabulous, almost ghazal-like. The lyrics are pathos-filled, and the harmonica-sarangi-guitars combination is aptly melodramatic for the track. Jubin Nautiyal has always been a terrific singer, but this might be the one that has finally given him star status. It is undoubtedly the best composition Nautiyal has sung till date. 06-TUM HI AANA CD MISC-20191229 TRACK#09 4:06 MARJAAVAAN-2019; JUBIN NAUTIYAL; PAYAL DEV; KUNAAL VERMAA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLqtnGLfm4Q DECEMBER – 2019: 6 Panipat; Pati Patni Aur Woh 13 Mardaani 2; The Body 20 Dabangg 3 27 Good Newwz MUNNA BADNAAM HUA – DABANGG 3 Already becoming the talk of the Bollywood music industry as the next big item number, Munna Badnaam Hua is a super cleaver remake and an original at the same time. The song reinvents the hit song title from the first film keeping the same hook melody but completely fresh musicality and lyrics in this version. The pace of the song is infectious and one can’t help but dance to it even while sitting down! Sabri is the real star delivering some brilliant lyrics for Sajid-Wajid to compose around. The lyrics are naughty, fun, cute, stylish and just out there with a brilliant flow that is very easy to get addicted to. Even the rap is just perfect for this song and Badshah delivers it spot on in his familiar Haryanvi style that even works in this UP setting. Kamaal Khan is a great addition to the song and sounds totally different to his O Oh Jane Jaana avatar. His vocals are well controlled and have a full powerful vocal delivery. Mamta Sharma is back on the vocals in a spectacular fashion and does a great job yet again like her performance on Munni Badnam Hui. Having her on the song brings that remake familiarity to the song that works well. Musically the arrangement is totally unique and very dynamic. There is complete music mayhem with so much going on that it completely sounds like a party! If the task was to bring back the classic item numbers and deliver a superhit like the previous two ‘Dabangg’ movie then full marks to this song as it really does it. 07-MUNNA BADNAAM HUA CD MISC-20191229 TRACK#07 5:00 DABANGG 3-2019; BADSHAH, KAMAAL KHAN, MAMTA SHARMA; SAJID-WAJID; SABRI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLeWT927P14 LAAL GHAGHRA – GOOD NEWWZ Next up is ‘Laal Ghaghra’, remixed version of RDB’s chartbusting number, rearranged and programmed by Tanishk Bagchi, Manj Musik and Herbie Sahara. Rendered by composers (Manj and Herbie) along with Neha Kakkar, it is an extremely rhythmic dance number featuring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
