An Indian Morning celebrates not only the music of India but equally its various arts and artisans, poets and potters, kings and patriots. The first 30 minutes of the program features classical, religious as well as regional and popular music. The second one hour features community announcements and ear pleasing music from old/new & popular Indian films. The ethos of the program is summarized by its signature closing line, "Seeking the spirit of India, Jai Hind". I am profoundly shocked to hear of the sudden passing of dear Hunsdeep Singh Rangar, host of Mirch Masala Radio, producer of South Asian Fest, a community leader par excellence. Above all, son-in-law in my extended family, caring son to Vimmiji, caring husband to Oshima, dear dad to Neela and son-in-law to Ashok & Manisha Sahgal. Many a heart have been touched by Hunsdeep. He made everyone a part of his wondrous world full of love and laughter. A pioneering spirit that he was. He lived and enjoyed every moment of his short life to the fullest in his own unique way. His affable nature, his sense of humour, sharp wit and pioneering spirit left a life-long impression in the hearts of everyone he met. One could not be in “bad mood” around him. He always remained approachable, respectful and down to earth soul. The East Indian community at large has lost a prominent member. The void cannot be filled. An Indian Morning, CKCU-FM, my family and I extend our profound condolences and sympathies to Oshima, Neela, Vimmiji, Ashok, Manisha, Neal, Anusha, JT, Sahgal & Rangar family members and friends. BURMAN; GULZAR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFRAFHtU-PE मुड़ मुड़ के न देख मुड़ मुड़ के... आज राज कपूर और मन्ना डे की जोड़ी का जो गीत हम लेकर आये हैं वह है फ़िल्म 'श्री ४२०' का। आशा भोंसले, मन्ना डे और साथियों की आवाज़ों में बेहद लोकप्रिय यह क्लब गीत है "मुड़ मुड़ के ना देख मुड़ मुड़ के"। 'श्री ४२०' १९५५ की सबसे बड़ी ब्लाकबस्टर फ़िल्म थी। राज कपूर, नरगिस, नादिरा और ललिता पवार के जानदार अभिनय तो थे ही, साथ ही शंकर जयकिशन और हसरत-शैलेन्द्र के धूम मचाते गीत संगीत ने इस फ़िल्म को अमर बना दिया है। फ़िल्म का हर एक गीत कहानी के साथ कहानी को आगे बढ़ाते हुए ले जाता है। गीतों के मूड और रफ़्तार भी किरदारों के मन की स्थिति को बयाँ करते हैं। जैसे कि इसी गीत को ले लीजिये, गीत शुरु होता है नादिरा की धीमी नशीली चाल के साथ, लेकिन बाद मे राज कपूर वाले हिस्से मे उसकी रफ़्तार तेज़ हो जाती है जो उनके दिल की हलचल और बेक़रारी की स्थिति को दर्शाता है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि यह गीत शुरु मे फ़िल्म मे नही था। लेकिन राज कपूर को जब नादिरा की नृत्यकला के बारे मे पता चला तो उन्होने ख़ास उनके नृत्य को फ़िल्म मे जगह देने के लिए एक 'सिचुयशन' बनाया और शंकर जयकिशन से गाना तैयार करने को कहा। नादिरा फ़िल्म मे खलनायिका की भूमिका मे थीं, इसलिए उसी अंदाज़ में यह गाना लिखा गया, संगीतबद्ध किया गया और उसी मादक अंदाज़ मे गाया भी गया। ट्रम्पेट साज़ का बेहद ख़ूबसूरत इस्तेमाल इस गीत मे सुनने को मिलता है। तो अब और देरी किस बात की, सुनिए और झूमिये। 07-MUDH MUDH KE NAA DEKH CD MISC-20190609 TRACK#07 5:35 SHREE 420-1956; MANNA DEY, ASHA BHOSLE; SHANKAR-JAIKISHAN; SHAILENDRA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3D3YNmg-Ak A time-tested tradition in Hindi films has been the presence of male and female versions of a song. Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) Lata Mangeshkar’s version cannot hold a candle to the male version by Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar. Yaadon Ki Baraat opens with Mangeshkar’s version performed by the mother of three boys who will get separated within the next few minutes, only to come together as adults, which is when the male version is performed. If Mangeshkar’s version has a light, lullaby-like quality, the male version is celebratory. The sequence’s sentimental sweep, as three brothers finally find each other after years of searching, adds emotional weight to the moment. Which is better?
