Happy Diwali. This is our funding drive.
Donate to CKCU because we are a lean organization that will use every dollar wisely: - All programming is done by volunteers. - A small, dedicated core of paid staff runs the day-to-day operations. - Administrative overhead is low. - Planning and overall management is done by a volunteer Board of Directors. You can be sure that every dollar you donate goes directly towards keeping the programs you love on the air.

First-class Radio for $50.00 an hour. All CKCU programming is prepared and presented by volunteers. We don’t pay the announcers. But we must pay the costs of running a broadcast facility, such as renting office space, buying broadcast equipment, maintaining the gear, and operating our transmitter. CKCU runs on a bare-bones budget. Because all on-air hosts are volunteers, CKCU can bring you first-class radio for about $50.00 per hour! That’s first-class programming on a shoe-string budget.

Diwali – the ‘festival of lights’ is the biggest festival of India, celebrating the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana from his 14-year exile and his victory over demon-king Ravana. Legend has it that people of Ayodhya lighted up the entire kingdom with diyas in order to celebrate the return of Lord Ram.
Bring in Rakesh Misra with his Diwali Thingee…
Do any of you remember this strange thing we used to play with on Diwali - it was a saap (सांप) or snake pellet - you light it and slowly this black thing would emerge coiled like a snake...it was a totally useless thing but I know we watched with fascination...or do you remember your first Diwali here in Ottawa, maybe when you came as a student and sat around with other students making or trying to make chhole (छोले) and puri (पूरी) ...and maybe play some teen patti (तीन पत्ती) ...and that Diwali phone call to your parents over crackling phone lines. Times have changed, we can buy mithhai in so many places around Ottawa, go to the Hindu temple, put on you tube to get the words to Lakshmi aarti. Some of our children have moved away and instead of that phone call we facetime as we do pooja and aarti...we have come a long way but still we value traditions. We continue traditions...like this tradition of an Indian Morning that has been a part of our lives for 25+ years (many years)...and this tradition where we ask for your contribution once a year to continue this tradition of An Indian Morning...please call and pledge...share the wealth, spread your prosperity on such an auspicious occasion, it is DIWALI! … DIAL AND DONATE - 613-520-3920.

It costs $50 per hour, every hour of the day, every day of the year, to keep the station running.
It costs $2600 per year to keep a one-hour show on the air ($50 per hour x 52 weeks = $2600).
If you pledge $50, you will keep CKCU on the air for one more hour. It’s your hour: we hope you enjoy it.
