Over My Head
Sunday September 4th, 2016 with Tony Copple
Pemba, Mozambique

Just back from Harvest School 24, by Iris Global, where Laurie-Ann and I graduated as missionaries. There was plenty of worship music, and today's program attempts to recreate that anointed atmosphere with recordings I made on my phone alternating with tracks from Bethel Music,
We step into freedom
Bethel Music - You make me brave - Bethel Music
You are worthy to be praised
Mozambique pastors - Live recording in Pemba
You make me brave
Bethel Music - You make me brave - Bethel Music
HS24 worship 1
HS24 worship team - Live recording in Pemba
It is well
Bethel Music - You make me brave - Bethel Music
In 1965 I was cruising off the coast of Mozambique in HMS Berwick. We were on 'Biera Patrol' preventing oil being tanked to Biera en-route to South Africa. It was the time of Apartheid. As the Weapons and Electrical officer one of my responsibilities was the public address system, which included the basic tools of a broadcasting studio. So I started a regular entertainment program, involving officers and ratings, with spoken words and music. This was to alleviate the possible boredom of many weeks at sea. The next track is a segment from one of the programs, preserved in my tape collection these 51 years, Biera is mentioned by Sub Lieut Peter Mitchell. For June and July 2016, Laurie-Ann and I were in Pemba, Mozambique, north of Biera, where Heidi and Rolland Baker chose to open the mission school in 2002. At that time the local tribe, Makua, were almost completely unreached by Christianity. Today, 15% of them are Christian. As we cruised off Beira, I doubt any of the locals has ever heard of Apartheid, or even South Africa. So this is want one of my programs sounded like 51 years ago.
