We open with new(ish) music from Iceland's Olafur Arnalds. He will be performing in Ottawa on Monday, May 30 at the Algonquin Commons Theatre (I mistakenly said the 28th during the show... sorry) and he puts on a stunning performance of beautiful music on piano with percussion and strings. The first is from Polish pianist, composer and singer Hania Rani. On Friday night, my daughter texted me from a concert she was attending with friends and asked if I knew this Irish band she was watching - Fontaines D.C. I checked them out and really got into their sound and then bought their latest album and the previous album on Bandcamp as part of Bandcamp Friday. It's important to tell your friends and family about new music you are experiencing and enjoying... haha!! The dark brooding nature of the group's post-punk sound is really compelling to me and I love the opaque nature of the lyrics.
