Splendid Isolation V: A Birthday, new music from Kathleen Edwards and Jim Bryson and SLEEP!

So perhaps a little self-indulgent here as I mark my son's birthday this week - and that he got engaged on the weekend. Hope you enjoy the audio equivalent of home movies... just for a wee bit. Anyway it's a tribute to Simon to start things off. Then we feature the new single from Kathleen Edwards and the latest from her buddy Jim Bryson. Both singles are available on Bandcamp. Kathleen's new album is coming in August. https://kathleenedwards.bandcamp.com/track/options-open https://kathleenedwards.bandcamp.com/ https://jimbryson.bandcamp.com/ https://jimbryson.bandcamp.com/track/better-on-drugs If you buy Jim's single you get all of the stems (the components of the song - drums, guitar, vocals, etc. - broken down into single tracks) so you can remix the song and do whatever you want with the various tracks. It's a great single and you support a fantastic local songwriter by paying $30 for it on Bandcamp. Here is what Jim posted about his first $30 single, Better on Drugs: "Ok: this is one fine fine song and it's the closest i've ever come to fundraising..and here is the what up. It is $30 as an idea of a way to tell people that I am ok with streaming but here is a way to contribute to the offset of the effects of all that awesome flat rate music consumption. So this smash hit is $30 here: don't think I'm an ass for doing this: I think it is actually a nice idea. It features my, for all time drummer, Peter VonAlthen and darling bass pal Jon Hynes. It is mixed by PEI hit machine Dan Ledwell and we got our local Grammy Nominee Phil to master it. I am telling you: what an idea...what a song ;)" If you want to hear Jim talk about these singles check out CKCU's Guest List from May 21 right here: https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/107/47874.html Finally we wrap up the evening with two lengthy pieces from Sigur Ros and Max Richter - pieces designed to enhance your sleep. Last word goes to Sarah Harmer........thanks for listening. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
