| The final part of the program begins just past 9 AM with a broadcast of the Hank Williams hosted radio program Mother's Best Flour that aired on WSM 650 AM in Nashville at 7 AM on weekday mornings in 1951.
I have long been fascinated by live-to-air radio programs from this era, whether the theme is music, comedy or drama. Some long-time listeners to my edition of the Saturday Morning program may recall Honky Tonk Saturday Mornings with Ball and Chain. So, it seems to me, to make sense to air an episode. Well, okay, the other reason is that my father was a huge fan of Hank Williams, and all music really (he once asked me to make him a mixed tape of Gregory Isaacs), and though he has passed on, March 13 is his birthday! Generally, episodes of Mother's Best Flour featured: the announcer (cousin) Louie Buck; Cedric Rainwater (bass); Sammy Pruitt (guitar, may not have been on this episode); Jerry Rivers (fiddle); Don Helms (steel guitar); and, of course, Hank Williams. |
