Happy Friday “Drivers” fam!
Back again with another tribute show that’s quite bitter sweet for me with the passing of yet another icon, namely, Roy Edward Ayers, Jr. born September 10, 1940 who only just left us this past Tuesday, March 4.
Bitter because of the loss of one of my favourite artists that has been a staple in more sets than I can probably count and was one of the most important introductions to me understanding the roots of the Acid Jazz movement of the late 80’s and early ’90’s.
Yet also sweet for the simple reason we get to enjoy at least two hours, though it will probably be more, of this very prolific and extremely talented vibraphone player, singer, composer and performer in this week’s show.
I’ll be trying to fit in as many of my favourites from my slightly incomplete collection of his solo works and a sprinkling from the numerous side projects from the late 1960’s right up until the last release I own from the “Jazz Is Dead” series.
I’ll keep my monolog short as usual and keep to the motto of more music less talk because the music can speak for itself but there are some links provided for any out there who want to do a deeper dive.
Happy listening, thank you all for taking the time and hope you enjoy this week’s offering.
