Friday Drive
Friday February 14th, 2025 with Trevor Waker
[V-DayFridayDriveQuietStormSpecialMixtape]

Happy Friday & Valentines Day “Drivers” fam! Not generally a big fan of ballads or love (lust) songs but there are a lot of slow jams that do hit my soul though, I generally steer clear in my sets. Today’s show will be the exception, being that the show falls on Valentines Day this year, I figured why not explore some of my favourites for a couple of hours and give you all a taste of loving & lustful music. There will be a focus on slow jams while moving things along throughout the show to some serious soul, funk and rare groove classics that have given me the “feels” over the year. Hoping this soundtrack will be a nice soundtrack for anyone looking for some Valentines vibes. Happy listening, thank you all for taking the time and hope you enjoy this week’s offering.

Clock in Ottawa - TH3RD FRIDAYS is back

#TH3RDFRIDAYS was launched in 2018 as the foundation of Moov Ottawa Dance. This initiative, created in collaboration with various community partners, aimed to provide street dancers with more regular opportunities to battle and for them to showcase it to our city. Entirely volunteer-driven, the event took place on the third Friday of every month from its inception until the final gathering just before the pandemic began.
Our events were hosted at City Hall, making TH3RD Fridays the only street dance battle in Canada held in a government building at the time!
Now, we’re excited to bring TH3RD Fridays back once a season—still on the third Friday of the month!

Duke Ellington’s landmark symphonic jazz composition, Black, Brown and Beige is perhaps the most significant work in the jazz repertory. Composed as a musical parallel to the history of the Negro in America, it tells the history of African Americans through slavery, emancipation, civil war, and their ascendancy in Harlem. This seminal jazz symphony was only ever performed in its entirety by Ellington’s orchestra a handful of times in 1943. In the many decades since, it has rarely been heard live.
Now for the first time in Canada, the Ottawa Jazz Orchestra, with a 16-piece ensemble, will perform the entire work, as well as other significant compositions Ellington wrote to portray black life.
While this special presentation will take place as part of Black History Month, this incredible music remains vitally relevant in light of present-day racial equality. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take in this special programme.
