We celebrate Julie’s life through performances by artists that were dear to her. Those who knew Julie know how much she wanted to see the people she loved come to fruition, have projects, realize their full potential. This manifested in her role as a professor and supervisor at the university of course, but also in her personal life and as an artist. She took great pleasure in seeing her friends take up challenges, create things. It is in this spirit that we have decided to organize this musical celebration in her memory. With our musical projects (011, Violence) over the years through concerts and collaborations we have had the chance to get to know artists whose work we admired and who have become friends and accomplices of creations, dreams, and party’s. We invite you on August 25th to come and celebrate Julie's life and memory with us in the company of people who were significant to her. The concert is open to everyone, and it is an opportunity for the community to fraternize in order to activate potentialities from which, we hope, will be born fertile discussions, stimulating encounters and the sparks of future creations, in short, a luminous evening like Julie. - Éric Trottier ——————————- THE CICADA INTERACTIVE SYNTH LAB Twiddle some knobs & make some bleeps & blurps of your own at the Cicada Interactive Synth Lab. WEDNESDAY SEPT. 6, 2023 8 PM BEBEL GILBERTO @Algonquin Commons Theatre 1385 Woodroffe Avenue Tickets: https://admitone.com/events/bebel-gilberto-ottawa-9030967 Doors open 7:00 PM Show starts 8:00 PM Present by MRGLive All Ages Bebel Gilberto is going on tour! Four-time Grammy nominee Bebel Gilberto will release her most heartfelt and personal album in August 2023, entitled João. More than a tribute to her father, the unforgettable João Gilberto, the album is a visit to Bebel's most fundamental musical memories. The choice of songs includes unexpected choices, such as the Waltz Bebel (Como São Lindos os Yogues), one of the rare compositions written by Joao Gilberto that was created for his daughter, to classics such as Ela é Carioca and Desafinado. João is an essential album for admirers of one of the greatest musical dynasties in Brazilian music. The recordings are neither versions nor reinterpretations, but declarations of love made in Bebel's unmistakable style, a style that, according to The New York Times, "exudes a self-possession, unaffected elegance and comfortable sensuality that is almost impossible to find among American pop stars of the same age." World renowned and multi-Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Bebel Gilberto has been enchanting fans and critics worldwide since her solo debut release in 1986. She catapulted onto the global music scene with a track on the celebrated compilation CD, RED HOT + RIO, followed by the worldwide success of her hit breakout album "Tanto Tempo" in 2000. The album featured her trademark electronic bossa nova, taking over clubs around the world and positioning Bebel as one of the top-selling Brazilian artists in the U.S. since the '60s. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2023 AT 8 PM – 2 AM Disco 93: Discodelia Lounge 164 164 Laurier Ave Event: https://fb.me/e/wSMANwRs The Disco Dudes are back y'all! Disco 93 is returning to Ottawa for the another night of disco debauchery. As always, the Fellas Qtips will be there, spinning early, so make sure to come early enough to check us out. We're proud to present a local legend, DJ Magnificent rocking the Ottawa scene for many, many years. His collection is so deep, it'll trigger memories you never knew you had. He's the grandmaster, he cuts slow or he cuts faster, he can get wicked on the mix and the blend, never fakes the funk and never pretends. We also have Montreal legend DJ Hidi, a man who works behind the scene to keep the local DJs thriving. Providing a regular place to practice on turntables at his Osmo x Marusan cafe we couldn't be more grateful for him providing this resource. Also a part owner of Sans Soleil, one of Montreal's newest and most esteemed clubs, the wait can be over an hour long sometimes. But it's worth it to just to hear music plated on one of the best soundsystems in Montreal. His record collection is sophisticated and deep. He'll have you dancing in a trance as you wiggle your body to the relentless grooves.
