-------------------------------------------------
About:
"The House of PainT Festival is a FREE Outdoor HipHop Jam that showcases Graffiti, Breakdancing, Dj’s and MC’s from across Canada. It is one of Ottawa’s fastest growing community events. Since 2003, House of Paint has created space to exhibit and uplift hip hop culture in the Nation’s Capital.
House of PainT’s pillars are the elements of hip hop: Graffiti, DJ-ing, MC-ing (Poetry and Rap), and Street Dance are celebrated and elevated through concerts, competitions, workshops, and academic talks for all ages.
As an organization, House of PainT celebrates and elevates hip hop arts and culture in the Ottawa-Gatineau region by promoting artists practicing hip hop art forms, improving access to urban arts for people from all different communities, connecting artists with opportunities for professional development, and of course facilitating the creation and presentation of hip hop arts through the Festival and our other programs throughout the year."

Loose Joints welcomes you back into an open portal to dance and feel alive. As proud allies of the 2SLGBTQIA+ & BIPOC Communities, we pledge to donate a portion of our proceeds from this event to the Ottawa Trans Library. Always inspired by the late Arthur Russell, an American disco-cellist/musical visionary (1951-1992) - it is important for us to pay homage to the origin of house music which developed as a Black gay genre. We ask you to come as you are and spread only love in our creative space. In love dancing? Come groove with us.

Sounds by Trevor Walker (@lifeboogie), Jose Palacios (@opencloseddoors) and Special Guest DJ (TBA). Lighting by John Cap in collaboration with Tom Vtipil. Rug Installations by Cassie Connor (@rugmommy). Graphic Designs by Amanda Brown.

"It is impossible to separate house's disco heritage from the marginalized LGBTQ people of colour who gravitated to it. 'It was a community,' said, Knuckles, quoted in Tom Lawrence's 2003 book Love Saves the Day: A History of American Dance Music Culture, 1970-1979." Excerpt from Temporary Pleasure, a book by John Leo Gillen, 2023

BIO - Flavio Kirilli, aka FK ANYWAY:
From an early age, Flavio was a lover of music and all it encompassed. All the nuances of sounds and the intricacies of a musical composition is where he found his happy place and it has helped form his unique, creative ear. His first step towards being a dj, was at age 16 when he bought his first console and played in a few clubs, where he grew up in the South of Italy. This gave him a real taste of what was soon to become an insatiable passion. In 2002, he moved to Riccione where the best clubs and nightlife were located, setting up shop to make his mark. Working in a top record store by day; producing and playing by night, his knowledge and taste in music were expanding and all the hard work was paying off.

For over 25 years Flavio has been rocking dance floors in clubs all over the world. Bookings in Italy include: Matis, Pascià, Echoes, Divinae Follie, Kamaloca, Nafoura, Peter, Villa delle Rose, PickUp, Miu J’Adore, Chalet delle Rose, Des Alpes, Meet Compact Club, Vanilla, and at international hot spots 43 Scott (Brooklyn-NY), The Door (NYC), NiteFlight (Liebnitz, Austria), Fiesta Club (Brussels), Penthouse (Copenhagen) among others. Flavio hosts his own radio show SUBTERRANEA every week with guest djs. He has been a guest on other radio shows such as: Rhythm is Rhythm, Ibiza Global Radio, NYC House Radio and many others.

As a person, Flavio is solid! He is professional and takes his music very seriously. Watching the dancefloor go wild is a rewarding feeling and one that he always strives for. He becomes the maestro, taking the crowd on a musical journey when he plays. With an infectious smile and great attitude on life, it’s all about the vibe.

Soft Serve Presents: Free Waacking Workshops Pride 2023
Welcoming all but HIGHLY encouraging those of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities to attend as this is a queer black/brown dance and culture.
---------------------------
What is Waacking?
Waacking is an art form and a queer dance that was created during the 1970's in the gay clubs of Los Angeles by primarily Black and Latino men. Alea, Ottawa's pillar in Waacking has been the city's main dancer, leader, advocate, educator, teacher and performer within the dance and culture since 2011. Alea founded "Soft Serve" a community hub for the dance style and culture in 2022. She has run PWYC classes and practices that are welcoming spaces for new dancers, the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community to experience the dance and be amongst their own. Alea has also run the city's only Waacking dance events and battles in Ottawa where practitioners from Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa come to celebrate the dance and each other.
Similarly, she has started an organization called "Moov Bouge Danza", Ottawa's only NFP that uses Street Dance and Hip Hop to empower marginalized youth and underserved communities.
This project "Soft Serve Presents: Free Waacking Workshops Pride 2023" aims to continue providing a welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC community to learn about the inspiring queer dance and the culture that surrounds it.

Celebration Of Life For Julie Morand-Ferron (1977-2022)
uOttawa Biology Professor, Mom & synth pop musician (Violence). We celebrate Julie’s life through performances by artists that were dear to her.
Those who knew Julie know how much she wanted to see the people she loved come to fruition, have projects, realize their full potential. This manifested in her role as a professor and supervisor at the university of course, but also in her personal life and as an artist. She took great pleasure in seeing her friends take up challenges, create things. It is in this spirit that we have decided to organize this musical celebration in her memory.
With our musical projects (011, Violence) over the years through concerts and collaborations we have had the chance to get to know artists whose work we admired and who have become friends and accomplices of creations, dreams, and party’s.
We invite you on August 25th to come and celebrate Julie's life and memory with us in the company of people who were significant to her. The concert is open to everyone, and it is an opportunity for the community to fraternize in order to activate potentialities from which, we hope, will be born fertile discussions, stimulating encounters and the sparks of future creations, in short, a luminous evening like Julie. - Éric Trottier

Bebel Gilberto is going on tour!
Four-time Grammy nominee Bebel Gilberto will release her most heartfelt and personal album in August 2023, entitled João.
More than a tribute to her father, the unforgettable João Gilberto, the album is a visit to Bebel's most fundamental musical memories. The choice of songs includes unexpected choices, such as the Waltz Bebel (Como São Lindos os Yogues), one of the rare compositions written by Joao Gilberto that was created for his daughter, to classics such as Ela é Carioca and Desafinado.
João is an essential album for admirers of one of the greatest musical dynasties in Brazilian music. The recordings are neither versions nor reinterpretations, but declarations of love made in Bebel's unmistakable style, a style that, according to The New York Times, "exudes a self-possession, unaffected elegance and comfortable sensuality that is almost impossible to find among American pop stars of the same age."
World renowned and multi-Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Bebel Gilberto has been enchanting fans and critics worldwide since her solo debut release in 1986. She catapulted onto the global music scene with a track on the celebrated compilation CD, RED HOT + RIO, followed by the worldwide success of her hit breakout album "Tanto Tempo" in 2000. The album featured her trademark electronic bossa nova, taking over clubs around the world and positioning Bebel as one of the top-selling Brazilian artists in the U.S. since the '60s.
