Interviews with pianist Gabriela Montero, vocalist Tréson of The Human Rights and singer-songwriter Braden Lam

The Guest List is sponsored by Spaceman Music, located at 388 Gladstone Avenue, just west of Bank. Visit Spaceman for all of your music making needs and don't forget they have a great repair shop and offer music lessons. Check out Spaceman online at: https://www.spacemanmusic.com/ We open the show in conversation with classical pianist Gabriela Montero. She is originally from Venezuela and her South American heritage influences the music she creates - which she talks about during our interview. We also talk to her about the young age at which she started creating music on a toy piano, and how she creates her own works and interprets the works of others. She is performing with the National Arts Centre Orchestra tonight (Thursday, May 1.) And if you are listening On Demand earlier in the week, she is also appearing on Wednesday, April 30. She is performing Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3. Last year she performed her own Piano Concerto No. 1, The Latin with the NACO and we talk about that concerto as well. For tickets to see the National Arts Centre Orchestra this week, use the link below: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/36120 And for more information about Gabriela Montero, use this link: https://www.gabrielamontero.com/ Next we connect with Tréson who is one of the vocalists with the Toronto-based reggae collective The Human Rights. Tréson tells us how the positive values of the group are reflected in the powerful, uplifting songs that the group creates and what to expect when The Human Rights perform at the Rainbow tonight - Thursday, May 1. It's going to be a souful explosion on stage with a huge group that includes a horn section. Don't miss this! Originally from Ontario, Braden has been living in Nova Scotia for a decade and the culture of the region has influenced his musical direction, as indicated on his debut album The Cloudmaker's Cry. Braden talks about the arrangements of the songs on the album and where the album title comes from. He tells us how he will be touring as a duo when opening for the Franklin Electric next week.
