The Guest List
Thursday August 8th, 2024 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Steve Forbert and Diyet (of Diyet and the Love Soldiers) both artists appearing in Ottawa over the next week
NOTE: We had to edit some interview snippets from both Steve Forbert and Diyet for the FM broadcast to fit the 60 minute format. You can hear those additional segments if you listen to the On Demand edition of the Guest List.
We open today with celebrated singer-songwriter Steve Forbert. He's at the National Arts Centre's Fourth Stage on Friday (July 9th) and in Toronto at Hugh's Room on Saturday (July 10th.) Steve has been making records since 1978 when he released his debut album Alive On Arrival, and many folks know him for his smash hit, "Romeo's Tune" which peaked at number 8 on the Canadian charts (1979-1980) and was #47 on the year-end chart for 1980. He has an amazing track record for writing and recording incredible songs that he has collected over 22 albums - with the latest Daylight Savings Time, coming out next week. You get to preview some of the songs here on the Guest List today as we talk to Steve about the new record, the inspiration for his songs and his lengthy career as a singer-songwriter and how he doesn't put together setlists.

And my apologies to Steve, because a couple of times in the interview I refer to the new album as Daylight Savings. I jotted it down incorrectly in my notes.
Then we talk to Diyet, as she's coming to Ottawa for three concerts next week: Tuesday and Wednesday evenings (August 13 and 14) on the Wood Terrace of the National Arts Centre at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee on Wednesday at the Atrium O'Brien of the NAC. All three concerts are free.
We talk to Diyet about the importance of singing in both English and her Native language which is Southern Tutchone. We discuss the importance of inspiring others to persevere through her songs and about her bandmates on the album and on this tour.

Thanks for listening to the Guest List today. Get out and see some live music if you can and support independent music in any way that you can. Take care.
Any feedback... feel free to share... but remember... Steve and Joe both love the Autumn. Not kidding.
