Interviews with James Samimi Farr who records under the name Daguerrotypes and with John Southworth

We open the show today in conversation with James Samimi Farr who makes music under the name Daguerrotypes. James is originally from Chelsea and he now lives in Minnesota, but he's coming home for the holidays and will be playing a concert in Chelsea on Saturday (Dec. 23) at La Fab Sur Mill. We talk to James about the significance of the name he uses when creating music, what he likes about Minnesota and what to expect from his concert this weekend. John has not been on the Guest List since 2011 and that's partly because he hasn't played a show in Ottawa since around then... which is a shame as he has created a great body of amazing music since his last visit to the Ottawa area. And it's also a shame that I haven't checked in with him until now! We talk about his songwriting process and some of the beautiful, and often whimsical themes he explores in his songs. We also touch upon how these songs really strike a chord with challenges we face in our world today, like the negative environments created on social media. This is a fun and lively conversation with a man who is truly inventive in his craft of song creation and who brings a much needed gentle voice to our whacky world.
