The Guest List
Thursday April 13th, 2023 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Stephen Fearing, Tara MacLean and Chris and Rosie of Bodywash

NOTE: The On Demand version of this show includes extra interview segments with all of our guests today and one extra song from Stephen Fearing. The interviews and some of the songs featured today had to be edited and shortened to fit into the 60 minute format of the FM broadcast of the Guest List. Enjoy this longer version of the show On Demand. We open today with Stephen Fearing. He will be appearing at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orleans next Thursday (April 20th) with his group The Sentimentals. Stephen tells us about his new album Vejpoesi and how it came together, combining a disparate collection of songs. He tells us what we can expect in concert next week and provides a beautiful explanation of the story behind the song Sunny. For more information about Stephen check out his website: https://stephenfearing.ca/ For tickets to his performance use this link: https://shenkmanarts.ca/en/stephen-fearing-sentimentals Then we talk to Tara MacLean, who is appearing at the National Arts Centre on the Fourth Stage tonight - April 13th - where she will be playing songs from her new album Sparrow, reading from her new memoir Song of the Sparrow and taking questions from the audience. Tara talks about the courage it took to write a memoir that chronicles some very difficult periods in her life and what forgiveness means to her. She also explains the importance of stuffed animals in her book and in her videos - I'm not kidding. It's a powerful interview with Tara today. For more information about Tara and her music and her book go to her website: https://www.taramacleanmusic.com For tickets for her NAC performance use this link: https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/33875 We wrap up this jam packed show today with Chris Steward and Rosie Long Decter of the Montreal shoe gaze, dream pop group Bodywash. They are set to release a brand new, second album I Held The Shape While I Could on Friday, April 14th. You can see them perform as an amazing five-piece group at Live On Elgin on Thursday, April 13th. Chris and Rosie tell us how they created the layered sonic landscape that is the new album and they talk about how Rosie's vocals fit into the mix. They also talk about the challenges of creating this music in the live setting... just like you get to see (and hear) at Live On Elgin on Thursday.
