An interview with pianist Jean-Michel Blais who is appearing at the National Arts Centre on October 20th

The last time we checked in with Montreal-based pianist Jean-Michel Blais it was early 2018... and my how his musical output has grown and expanded since then! In an extensive interview, Jean-Michel talks about how he is embracing classical music approaches on his latest album aubades. He shares with us his feelings about the process of working with acoustic musicians on this recording and what you can expect from his upcoming performance at the National Arts Centre in the Babs Asper Theatre on Thursday, October 20th. Although he refuses to tells us about what older songs are getting reworked for this performance - he wants you to have some surprises. Jean-Michel is generous in sharing his ideas and they really do help provide some insights into the gorgeous music he creates. For more information about Jean-Michel Blais check out this link: https://jeanmichelblais.com For ticket information about his performance at the National Arts Centre check out this link (but move quickly as there are very few tickets left for the concert.) https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/30518 You can check out that 2018 interview here if you want to hear Jean-Michel talking about how he is launching his career while riding in a taxi to the airport on his way to a major showcase in New York City. It's a great conversation as well. https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/107/35780.html Get out and see some live music if you can and support independent music any way you can.
