The Guest List
Thursday September 15th, 2022 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland of Whitehorse and Sarah Harmer - all appearing at CityFolk this weekend

We open the show in conversation with Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet - the rockin' Canadian roots duo who perform as Whitehorse. We hear about why they have been so prolific lately (two albums in 2021, several singles this year, and a brand new album coming in January of 2023) and how the recent albums reflect different approaches to making music and their explorations of different genres and styles. They also talk about their family life and being on the road with their eight-year old son Jimmy who has a penchant for making music (and joins us for about 10 seconds to clarify something Mom and Dad are saying about him.) It's a fun and insightful interview. You can see Whitehorse at the CityFolk Festival on Friday night (Sept. 16) along with Orville Peck and the Record Company. For more information about Whitehorse go to the group's website: https://www.whitehorsemusic.ca https://whitehorsemusic.bandcamp.com Then we check in with Sarah Harmer who is at CityFolk on Saturday night (Sept. 17) with John Fogerty and Shovels and Rope. Sarah talks about why it took 10 years between her albums Oh Little Fire (2010) and Are You Gone (2020.) Sarah shares how it felt to finally get an album out and then have to cancel one year of touring due to the pandemic. She also talks about many of the ideas behind the songs on the album including her environmental activism and her friendship with Gord Downie. As always, Sarah is gracious and thoughtful in sharing her ideas with us today. For more information about Sarah Harmer check out her website: https://sarahharmer.com https://sarahharmer.bandcamp.com/album/are-you-gone For more information about CityFolk and to buy passes check out this website: https://cityfolkfestival.com Get out and see some live music if you can and support independent musicians any way that you can.
