RBC Ottawa Bluesfest kicks off on Thursday, July 7th. Today we feature 2 of the roots, bluesy artists featured at the diverse music festival which runs until July 17th. Rick Fines is one of the country's finest roots artists, blending blues, folk and country stylings into a gentle musical mix. We talk about the themes that run through the songs on his award-winning album Solar Powered Too, including some songs that examine worry, anxiety and resentment. She is primed to release a new album titled Kingmaker on July 15th. We talk about some of the thought-provoking themes featured on this album, notably songs that speak about the power of women and empowering women even more. She loves to do this in intriguing fashion on the songs we feature today. She also talks about getting to work with Willie Nelson on the song Beyond The Stars, and how Willie plays the voice of her deceased father on that track. It's a moving part of the conversation.
