An interview with Jean-Sébastien Truchy of Fly Pan Am about the new album Frontera
Today we talk to Jean-Sébastien Truchy of the Montreal group Fly Pan Am about the album Frontera - the latest release by Fly Pan Am. The album is made up of the music that the group created to accompany the dance piece Frontera by the dance troupe Animals of Distinction. It's a stunning dance work choreographed by Dana Gingras, and it was one of the last artistic works that I got to see live when it was presented by the National Arts Centre on February 19 and 20 in 2020. JS talks about how Fly Pan Am got together with Dana Gingras and Animals of Distinction to create this work. It's a fascinating discussion about how a punky post-rock group worked with the dancers and JS shares what it was like to play this music live on stage as part of the dance performance. Frontera is a collection of frenetic, angular and muscular pieces that accompanied this dance production perfectly.
For more information about Fly Pan Am and Frontera check out the links below. As well, check out the links to the Animals of Distinction website and the National Arts Centre's page on this production. Good video on these links.
If you can afford to do so, please consider purchasing the album as artists need our support during these difficult times (and if you subscribe to a streaming service it pays independent artists like Fly Pan Am almost nothing when stream their music.)
