Interviews with Rebecca Foon and Jim Bryson about their upcoming virtual shows as part of the Ottawa Winter Jazz Fest

On the show tonight we talk to two artists appearing as part of the virtual Ottawa Winter Jazz Fest this year. It's all presented by the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and the virtual concerts are free to stream. You can get more information here: First up we talk to Montreal cellist Rebecca Foon, who we've had on the show in the past talking about her work with the group Esmerine and with other amazing artists like Colin Stetson. Today we talk to her about her beautiful solo album Waxing Moon and how most of the songs on the album feature Rebecca at the piano and singing. We talk about how this solo project came to be and about what to expect in her virtual concert tonight (Thursday, March 4) at 8 p.m. We also talk about her amazing initiative Pathway to Paris and how Rebecca is working with other artists to help bring about real global action to combat climate change. If you're coming to this after March 4th, you can still watch Rebecca's performance for a limited time using this link: Next up we check in with Jim Bryson who will be performing virtually for the Ottawa Winter Jazz Fest on Friday night (March 5) at 8:30 p.m. We talk to Jim about how he's been doing during the pandemic and how his recording studio has been holding up. We also talk about the importance of supporting local and independent artists - a familiar theme to regular listeners and Jim mentions some great regional acts to support like Graven... and I've included a link to Graven's website and Bandcamp site here for you to explore. Jim also talks to us about the great band he put together for this Winter Jazz Fest performance and how good it feels to be playing some of his own music again. If you are listening after March 5th, you can still watch Jim's performance for a limited time using this link: Thanks for listening. Check out the Ottawa Winter Jazz Fest and support local and independent music. Remember it's another Bandcamp Friday this Friday and all proceeds for albums and songs you buy on the site go directly to the artists or their labels and Bandcamp doesn't take any processing fees this Friday. It's a great day to support independent music!
