The Guest List
Thursday March 12th, 2020 with Joe Reilly
An interview with solo pianist R Grunwald coming to the NAC March 28th

Today we were hoping to talk to Hawksley Workman about his music and his concert this Friday at the Shenkman Arts Centre with Sarah Slean but something came up and Hawksley had to cancel. A shame as it's always a pleasure to talk to him but maybe next time. The show at the Shenkman is sold out. We did get to talk to R Grunwald about his beautiful solo piano album called Oma and his upcoming show at the National Arts Centre on March 28th. The Fourth Stage will be a great place to listen to his intricate piano music. We talk to R Grunwald about how to classify his music and the links it has to minimalism and classical traditions. He tells us how his grandmother encouraged him to continue with piano when he was young and wanted to quit and about how his session work with many musicians has influenced his solo piano music - notably his extensive work with Donovan Woods and Jill Barber. https://rgrunwald.com/ https://rgrunwald.com/ Get out and see some live music this week and be sure to purchase the music of artists you love - either by download or on vinyl or CD. Remember that most independent artists make very little from streaming services.
