The Guest List
Thursday February 13th, 2020 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Geoff Berner, The Beaches and The Franklin Electric on the show today

We open the show talking to Geoff Berner who is appearing at the Black Sheep Inn on Saturday night, February 15th. Geoff talks to us about how social justice issues are themes in his songs and how he works with satire - and how it sometimes doesn't work as satire and it's back to the drawing board for a song. Geoff also talks about the klezmer sounds in his music and how Socalled guided the production process on his latest album. http://www.geoffberner.com/ https://www.theblacksheepinn.com/ Next we check in with Eliza Enman-McDaniel who is the drummer with The Beaches. The group will be headlining at the Bronson Centre on Wednesday, February 19th. We talk to Eliza about idiotic and predatory males who are skewered nicely in several songs on the Beaches latest EP The Professional. We joke about how the members of The Beaches STILL have to talk about being four women in a rock band even today in 2020!! She also fills us in about what it was like working with Irish mega-producer Jacknife Lee, who has worked on recordings by groups like U2, Snow Patrol and Bloc Party, and many others. https://www.thebeachesband.com/ https://www.spectrasonic.com/e/the-beaches-77429528805/ Finally we talk to Jon Matte of Montreal's The Franklin Electric. The band will perform at the 27 Club on Wednesday, February 26th. We talk to Jon about finding a new home for the group on Nettwerk Records and how the group came to release two EPs in rapid succession - The In Your Head EP in late 2019 and the new In Your Heart EP coming out February 21st. Jon talks about how the song cycles on the 2 EPs are distinct yet linked and how the group has created a setlist for the current tour that incorporates songs from these new releases and the older recordings. https://www.facebook.com/THEFRANKLINELECTRIC/ https://www.spectrasonic.com/e/the-franklin-electric-86616142213/ Get out and see some live music this week and remember to purchase the album of independent artists you love - so they can earn a living and keep making great music for us to enjoy.
