Interviews with David Francey, Kliffs, and Sultans of String

Lots of Christmas music on the show today... and well it is December 5th so that's ok! We open up talking to David Francey about his album Carols For A Christmas Eve and his upcoming concert, at the Almonte United Church on Saturday, December 21. David has been off the road for a couple of years - as he needed to take things easier and rest his voice after losing it several years ago. David describes how he's comeback from that challenge and how he's pacing himself these days. He also tells us about how his wife Beth insisted that he record a Christmas album for him and how he came to record it with pianist Kathryn Briggs. Kathryn and other musicians will join David for his special Christmas show in Almonte. David will be back in Ottawa to perform at the National Arts Centre on Sunday, February 23. https://www.davidfrancey.com/shows https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/david-francey-christmas-show-2019-almonte-united-church-tickets-78392164073 https://nac-cna.ca/en/event/21856 Next we have a fantastic conversation with Mark Berube of the group Kilffs. The group has just released its debut album Temporary Cures, despite making music to together for many years. Kliffs is performing tonight (December 5) at Live On Elgin. Mark talks to us about how living in Berlin has influenced the sound of the group and he tells us how the song Outside of Cool went through several dramatically different treatments before they arrived at the cool, late night chill out vibe for the song. He also tells us an amazing story about his grandparents - and his grandfather's time as a prisoner of war in Japan during the Second World War and how their story came to be the song Old Time Cinema Newsreel. It's an amazing story so give it a listen. https://www.kliffs.ca/ https://www.liveonelgin.com/ Finally we check in with Chris McKhool of the Sultans of String. The Sultans will be at the Shenkman Arts Centre for their Christmas Caravan show on Thursday, December 19th. Chris tells us that this is a show you should not miss as the group will be performing with an array of great singers including Rebecca Campbell and Lynn Miles. He also talks about how the group likes to put its personal stamp on the Christmas songs they interpret and how they recorded some of their Christmas album and the videos that accompany it in Prague. http://sultansofstring.com/ http://shenkmanarts.ca/en/calendar_calendrier/december_decembre_2019/sultans_of_string/index.htm Get out and see some live music this week!!
