Interviews with Fet.Nat, L Con and The Royal Foundry

A jam-packed funding drive show today. Unfortunately waited a little too long for a call from Scenic Route to Alaska (the band got caught up in soundcheck and missed its interview time) and ended up having a short conversation with Jared of The Royal Foundry. Apologies to Jarod for that. All of the acts on the show today are hard-working, independent Canadian artists. We support Canadian artists on this show every week and if you want to help keep CKCU on the air so we can continue to do this important work of promoting Canadian, independent music then please contribute to our annual public funding drive by calling 613-520-3920 or going to the secure donation section of our website. Be sure to tell them that you want to support Canadian music and the Guest List!! We open with the engaging JFNO talking about the Hull-based avant-everything group FET.NAT. We talk about how the group fits into a long line of free, improvisational musical artists in Quebec and how the group creates truly "out there" music. He tells us how it all starts with the drums and how much the group enjoys using various voices in its music. He also tells us how the group bring this engaging music to life in the live setting. FET.NAT plays at Club SAW on Friday, November 1st. https://www.facebook.com/fetnatmusic/ Next we check in with Lisa Conway who produces music under the name L Con. L Con plays at Pressed on November 14th, so you have plenty of time to plan for this upcoming concert. Lisa talks about the ideas behind the single "Winner" and how she used real strings on the piece - arranged and performed by last week's guest on the show Mika Posen also known as Merganzer. Lisa also tells us how she prefers to perform with a drummer on stage and what that adds to overall live performance. https://www.lconofficial.com/ https://lcon.bandcamp.com/ https://pressed-ottawa.com/event/l-con-album-release-show-w-sg-orchidae-rayannah/ We were hoping to hear from someone with Scenic Route to Alaska, but as often happens on the show, the band got caught up in soundcheck and didn't make they call. They texted apologies though and we'll talk to them next time through Ottawa. You can see Scenic Route to Alaska at Live on Elgin on November 1st. https://www.scenicroutetoalaska.com/ https://www.spectrasonic.com/e/scenic-route-to-alaska-73202106471/ Finally we check in with Jared of the Royal Foundry for a quick chat about the group's new album and single Whatever Whatever. Jared tells us how the melody for the awesome background vocal harmony came to him and hung around for months before finding the right fit with this uplifting song. He also tells us how they worked with old-school synths to make the choir boy sound for the vocal piece. The Royal Foundry plays at Live on Elgin on November 2nd. http://www.theroyalfoundry.com/ https://www.spectrasonic.com/e/the-royal-foundry-73202090423/ Get out and see some live music this week. Be sure to buy music from artists you love so they can keep making music.... and be sure to donate to CKCU's annual public funding drive. You can call in at 613-520-3920 or do so at ckcufm.com. Be sure to say you love the Guest List and credit your donation to the show. THANKS.
