5:05 pm Thomas Busby and Jeremy Marou

Australian duo, Busby Marou are heading here to Canada to play some shows around Ontario, including a stop in Burnstown on Friday, July 12th at Neat Café

Tom Busby and Jeremy Marou have been playing music together for over a decade since their initial music connection at a pub in Rockhampton, Queensland. Since then, the duo – known aptly as Busby Marou – has become a national treasure in Australia, gaining the reputation as one of the country’s hardest working live bands, best known for their distinctly Australian storytelling and gifted musicianship.

On stage, a key element of Busby Marou’s performance is the intertwining of vocal interplay of two life-long mates. The duo recently finished recording their fourth album with Oscar Dawson (Alex Lahey, Holy Holy), which will be released September 27.

The innovative Niger-born Tuareg shredder Mdou Moctar, known best for his ability to expertly combine traditional Saharan guitar music with Western rock and roll influences, will perform live in concert on Friday, July 26 at Queen St Fare, with special guest Ottawa-based Nigerian rapper Asuquomo.

Mdou Moctar is one of the most innovative artists in contemporary Saharan music. His unconventional interpretations of Tuareg guitar have pushed him to the forefront of a crowded scene. Back home, he’s celebrated for his original compositions and verbose poetry, an original creator in a genre defined by cover bands. In the exterior, where Saharan rock has become one of the continents biggest musical exports, he’s earned a name for himself with his guitar moves. Mdou shreds with a relentless and frenetic energy that utterly sets him apart.

During the weeks leading up to and following the concert, Knot Project Space will host a film exhibition of two music-based films that are based in the Sahel region of the Saharan desert: Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai (2015) starring Mdou Moctar, and Zerzura (2017) starring Moctar’s guitarist Ahmoudou Madassane.
