Interviews with Tom Wilson of Lee Harvey Osmond, Gabrielle Shonk and Doug Cousins from Bearings

Three great interviews on the show today.... and thanks to Janis for covering the first five minutes of the show as I was stuck in relentless traffic... man the snowbanks are slowing folks everywhere in town!! We start off with Tom Wilson - of the Florida Razors (yes I'm old), Junkhouse and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings - as he will be in town this weekend leading his other great group Lee Harvey Osmond in two shows at the Black Sheep Inn up in Wakefield on Friday and Saturday nights (Feb. 15/16.) It is always a pleasure to talk to Tom, and these days conversations with him are dominated by the fact that he discovered late in life that the people who raised him were not his birth parents and that he is in fact a Mohawk. Tom talks about how the song Mohawk chronicles his return to the reserve with this knowledge and we talk about how this revelation has been life altering for Tom. He also talks about the process of moving out of anger and into understanding and how these revelations have been like a fog slowly lifting. Another great conversation with Tom Wilson on the Guest List. Check out the fresh new album Mohawk - just released a couple of weeks ago. https://leeharveyosmond.com/ https://www.theblacksheepinn.com/ Next up we check in with Gabrielle Shonk. The Quebec City-based singer-songwriter will be in town on Friday night (Feb. 15), appearing at the Fourth Avenue Baptist Church as part of the Come See and Hear the World series being presented by the Ottawa Bluesfest. (See the link below.) We talk to Gabrielle about the nostalgia evident in her song When We Were Young and how she ended up with children singing on the song. We also talk about her ability to create songs in both English and French and where that comes from and which one she is more comfortable with. Finally we touch on the theme of transitions - an important over arching theme on several songs on the album. http://www.gabrielleshonk.com/ https://comeseeandheartheworld.ca/ Finally we check in with Doug Cousins from the Ottawa band Bearings. The group has been so busy on the road, that it has taken several months for them to put together a local show here in Ottawa to celebrate the release of the group's full length album "Blue In The Dark." Doug explains how the group released the album in the Fall and was out on tour after tour and the members of Bearings are really lookng forward to finally playing those songs and marking the release of the album for local fans and friends on Friday night at the 27 Club. (Feb. 15) We also talk about the freedom Doug and the band members feel about releasing an album and how - how they can explore wider ranging songs when they have 10 songs on an album as opposed to an e.p. with only 4 songs on it. https://www.spectrasonic.com/event/1814070-bearings-blue-in-dark-release-ottawa/ http://www.bearingsband.com/ Get out and see some live music this week... and BUY some music from artists that you enjoy. That way they can make a living and keep making great music. They need our support!!!
