Interviews with Folly and the Hunter and Paper Beat Scissors

On today's show we feature a lengthy conversation with Nick Vallee of Folly and the Hunter about the group's latest album Remains and the band's decision to stop making music with a final concert in Montreal this Friday night, December 14 at Bar Le Ritz PDB. Nick addresses some of the very sad and subtle angry lyrics that reflect the difficult period he and Laurie Torres went through while recording this fourth album and then deciding to stop making music as Folly and the Hunter. Nick talks about the challenges they have faced making a living as musicians and how they just could not sustain themselves as Folly and the Hunter any longer. It is a beautiful album with the lovely textured music we have come to expect from Folly and the Hunter, which Nick acknowledges in the interview frequently comes from Laurie. As well there are hopeful moments in several songs on an album the provides insight into the thinking of artists who are planning to give up their craft. My daughter described it as a "breakup album with music and your dreams" as opposed to an album documenting the breakup of a couple. It is one of the finest albums released in 2018! http://www.follyandthehunter.com/ https://www.showclix.com/event/folly-the-hunter We also talk to Tim Crabtree about his musical project Paper Beat Scissors and his upcoming concert at Pressed on Friday night here in Ottawa (December 14.) We talk to Tim about how he was so moved by a song by the Weather Station that he decided to cover it and highlight it on a recent e.p. - although admitting he got some of the lyrics wrong. He also talks about how some of the textures like French horns make their way into his gorgeous music and some Ottawa connections there. http://www.paperbeatscissors.com/ https://pressed-ottawa.com/event/paper-beats-scissors-w-tanya-davis-nathanael-larochette/ Get out and see some live music this week ... and try buying some music... musicians and artists cannot survive if you only stream it.
