On today's show a couple of acts didn't make their calls but we played some of their music to plug their gigs. Elisapie is at the National Arts Centre tonight for a sold out show on the Fourth Stage. He is appearing at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orleans on Saturday night (December 1.) We talked about whether Royal is a hopeless romantic and how songs that may be written about romance can be interpreted in various ways. We also talked at length about his moving song "Photograph" and how important the song is to Royal as it is a tribute to his late father. https://royalwood.ca/ Finally we checked in with Larry Graves about his new funky group Surefire Sweat. The group merges elements of African pop, jazz, funk and other groovin' music into a dance-inducing rhythmic hybrid that is infectious and uplifting. We talked about whether or not cultural appropriation is something that Larry thinks about and how Larry and the group captured their bold "live" sound in the studio.
