Interviews with Ali McCormick, Trash Can Sinatras, and Yung Heazy

Ali McCormick has just released a new album of very personal songs about family and places she loves. It's all set to a folk/country musical backdrop and fans of Mary Gauthier or Lori McKenna may find lots to enjoy here. She's appearing at Irene's on Friday, June 8. We talk about writing such personal songs and how she captured them with a great band in the studio. https://alimccormick.com/ http://irenespub.ca/events Next up we connect with John Douglas of the Scottish pop-rock group the Trash Can Sinatras. The group released its first album in 1990 and on the current tour the group will be playing its first two albums Cake and I've Seen Everything in their entirety in a three-piece format. The band will also play songs from other albums including the most recent recording, Wild Pendulum from 2016. John explains how the core band members love getting back together to tour as they live in different parts of the world and how the old songs still resonate with them and audience members. He also tells us a bit about what the old songs reveal about John and his bandmates back in the day when they recorded them. The group is appearing at Mavericks on Sunday, June 3. http://trashcansinatras.com/ Finally we check in with Yung Heazy about his debut album and his show in Ottawa at Makerspace tonight (Thursday, May 31.) Yung Heazy explains how this musical project took off when a song he recorded for his girlfriend on Valentines Day took on a Soundcloud life of its own. His debut album is called Whenever Your Around I Hate Everything Less and its a collection of quirky melodic pop songs. https://www.facebook.com/YungHeazy/ Get out and see some live music this week.

Joe, what a great interview with John and they did indeed play Weightlifting as their last song in their set and it was beautiful. They are one of those consistently great bands.
