On the show today we kick off with Ottawa-based band Bearings. Three band members Doug Cousins, Ryan Culligan and Collin Hanes dropped in to talk about the group's newest e.p. Nothing Here Is Permanent. We talked about how the band came together through a program at Algonquin College and how the group's sound has changed over 3 releases. We also talk about the very personal nature of most of the songs on this new e.p. and how the death of Doug's father is a recurring theme. Doug and his bandmates talk about how important it was to make sure these songs captured that feeling and struck the right tone. Julie first made her mark with seminal Canadian alternative act Eric's Trip and has released music under her own name and as Broken Girl. The new project features some pretty gritty music and we talk to Julie about the emotions captured on this recording and I joke with her that she's filling the gap left by the break up of Sonic Youth.
