Interviews with Daniel Ash (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Tones on Tail, Poptone) with Diva Dompe, Ian Sherwood, and Gabrielle Shonk

Today on the show we talk to a veteran of making celebrated alternative music - Daniel Ash. Daniel was an integral member of Bauhaus, Love and Rockets and Tones on Tail and is currently touring with his old bandmate (from those groups) Kevin Haskins as Poptone. The group includes Kevin's daughter Diva Dompe and together they are playing some of the best songs recorded by those great groups from the 1980s. We talk about what brought the two back together, how Diva enjoys being out on the road with her Dad and Brian Eno - notably his album Before and After Science. Daniel also gets into a hilarious bit about explaining to people that Poptone is not a tribute or cover band because he and Kevin were in the original groups that made the music... so they can't be a cover band!! He really wants people to get that message. He had just finished soundchecking for his concert at Batstone's Northern Ramble in Renfrew tonight (Thursday, Sept. 28) and he will also be playing at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Kilmaurs on Sunday (Oct. 1) at 3:00 p.m. We talk about the powerful dynamic going on between the two people in his song "Don't Want To Leave" and how he creates these kinds of songs using snippets from stories from his own life and the lives of others. She's about to launch a new album and she will be performing next week (Wed. Oct. 4) at the NAC to help reopen the Fourth Stage. She's also coming back next February for a show of her own. I stupidly tell everyone it's in January... as I failed to read that her show with Hanna Georgas took place last January... duh.
