Interviews with Geoffroy, Ginger Ale and the Monowhales, and Kid Koala

We opened today's show playing some tunes by Montreal singer-songwriter Geoffroy, but he was a bit late getting through to us .... but we eventually chatted in the middle of the show about his new album Coastline. We talked about how the new album features rich textures and how percussion is such a big part of the sound of the album. The group is performing at Live on Elgin on Friday night, Feb. 3. The whole band took the time to come into the studio today and shared with us their music and some great swag! We talked about the song Home and how it is a significant song in these times as it explores the importance of a sense of community and home! Zach and Sally tell us about how the group's concerts are experiences with lots of audience interaction and fun antics on stage - think Flaming Lips... a band that these guys are big fans of. http://www.themonowhales.com/epk-1 Finally we talk to Eric San who is best known as Kid Koala, turntablist extraordinaire. He has just released a gorgeous new album that does not feature his turntabling skills. Instead it's a lovely ambient album that features the Icelandic vocalist Emiliana Torrini on almost half of the pieces. We talk about the beauty and importance of ambient music and Eric tells us about the albums he loves to listen to when he is drawing and how this recording was influenced by the Montreal winters. He also tells us about the very amazing shows he will be doing that have up to 50 members of the audience engaged in creating the music using turntables.
