The Guest List
Thursday November 10th, 2016 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with Bear Mountain, Repartee, Highs, The Falcon and The Acorn (all live ... whew!)

On the show today we talk to five acts coming to Ottawa this week and next week so there's lots of great talk and music here... which will hopefully entice you to check out some of these gigs. Most of the shows are presented by our good friends at Spectrasonic, so check out gig information here: http://www.spectrasonic.com/ Bear Mountain brings its mix of electronics, jazz and rock to Babylon next Thursday, November 17th. Getting you moving is a key aim for this group and Ian Bevis talks to us about the group's live presentation and how they decided to open the album Badu with a brilliant instrumental track - even though there are lyrics for the other songs here. http://lastgang.com/artists/bear-mountain/ Next up we talk to Meg of Repartee. The Newfoundland quartet creates big, bold electronic pop music. The group will be in town next Friday, November 18th, with Marianas Trench at TD Place and the group returns to Ottawa on January 18th at the Algonquin Theatre. http://www.reparteemusic.ca/ Then we chat with Doug Haynes from Highs. The group just released its debut Dazzle Camouflage and will be playing in town at Zaphods next Friday, November 18th. We talk about the soukous and other African influences on the group's sound and of course similar sounding groups like Vampire Weekend. http://www.highsmusic.com/ Getting a chance to talk to an American punk rock band two days after the disastrous election of Donald Trump... well we couldn't help but talk about the state of American politics and of course how this may prove to be a rich source for punk rock and protest art in the near future. We talk to Brendan Kelly about this and what to expect at the group's concert next Thurdsay, November 17th at Zaphods. http://www.redscare.net/site/releases/ Finally we check in with Rolf of the Acorn about the band's gig tonight (November 10th) at Babylon. It will be a big band and lots of great music from the band's vast repertoire being performed tonight. http://www.theacorn.ca/ Get out and see some live music this week... and next!
