Rough Francis is a powerhouse quintet from Burlington Vermont. The group blends punk rock grit and spirit with some soul roots and creates a powerful sound. The group has an interesting family connection to seminal punk rockers Death and we talk to Bobby Hackney Jr. about the heritage he taps into with his brothers. It's an album that throws scorching synths into the mix and comes off sounding something akin to great albums by Ministry or Skinny Puppy... with a touch of the Sisters of Mercy at times. Lots of reviewers are talking about the group's use of synths on this album and while some see it as an abrupt change for the group, it feels more like an evolution of the Odonis Odonis sound... so we start off listening to some older songs before jumping into the new album. Dean Tzenos explain what the group was trying to do in the studio - from a sound perspective and a lyrical perspective. He also talks about how the group creates this big sound live.
