The Guest List
Thursday January 14th, 2016 with Joe Reilly
Interviews with The Harpoonist and the Axe Murder, Main Street Market Band and the Lake Effect (Sound)

The Harpoonist and the Axe Murder create music that blends rock, blues, r&b, funk, soul and just about anything else they can put their hands on... and it comes out sounding amazing. Think Black Keys, Sly and the Family Stone, and other fab acts that make you wanna move. We talk to Shawn Hall who sings for the group and plays bass and harmonica about how they make so much music with only 2 guys on stage and how they approach the recording process. Check them out at the Black Sheep Inn on Thursday, Jan. 29th. http://www.harpoonistaxemurderer.com/ Ottawa's Main Street Market Band brings together four men from different cultural backgrounds creating an uplifting blend of music that mixes fabulous vibes from South America and Africa in particular. Paul Weber is at the core of the group, and you may remember his other cross cultural band Cheza. He joins us to talk about the importance of cross-pollinating music and his links to African roots music. The band is releasing its debut album On Your Radio at the Black Sheep Inn on Saturday, January 23. http://www.mainstreetmarketband.com/ Finally we check in with Dave Bignell. Longstanding member of the Ottawa music scene, it's always a blast when Dave drops in on the Guest List. His group the Lake Effect has had to change it's name to The Lake Effect Sound. We jokingly talk about the challenges of naming a band in 2016 and the sound of his group. Check them out at Irene's on Friday, January 15th. https://www.facebook.com/Thelakeeffectsound Get out and see some live music this week.
