Continuing my Sibelius symphony cycle with his grand and epic 2nd symphony. This is a work that makes economic use of musical resources and builds from the small musical gestures which opens the work to the enormously dramatic and moving conclusion. It really defines Sibelius as a master of his own unique and original idiom.
It is receiving a rare Canadian performance in October by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Details here: http://www.tso.ca/Concerts-And-Tickets/Events/2012-2013-Season/Ravel-Sibelius.aspx |
